What is the best machine for a single server setup?
Added by Mike Trinidad about 12 years ago
Hi,
I was wondering if Intel i5 would be okay to be used as a single server setup. What should be the ram size? Any recommendations to the motherboard, processor and the ram size?
I have noticed that in single server setup, no matter how big it is, the physical memory would be in scary red @96%-98% used, the calls are dropping or there are static noise.
There was also a problem with my installation of the Goautodial 2.0 CE into the i3 processor and asus p5/p8 motherboard, it will look for the kickstart, (ks.cfg) during the installation.
I'm starting to configure and setup servers. Any comments and suggestions would be appreciated. :D
Thanks,
Mike

Hi Mike,
What we recommend is to use the latest release and 64 bit version of GoAutoDial distribution you can check the howto here http://goautodial.org/projects/goautodialce/wiki/64bit this will fully optimize your hardware since you are using i5. For the memory a 4GB ram is enough just monitor your server current load and call handles and adjust the configuration until you meet and satisfy with the performance.
Thank you for the interest with GoAutoDial.
Cheers

Hi mike
single server or multiserver it depends on total no of agents and calls to be processed
with i5 server single server setup , you can go upto 15 to 20 agents with 30 simultanesoucs calls, and ram should be 8gb.
i personally suggest Intel xeon 2Xquad core server for the vicidial installations for 30 to 40 agents single server setup

To get the recommended hardware for a single server setup please answer the following questions:
1. How many seats/agents are you going to run?
2. Inbound, outbound or blended calls?
3. What kind of trunks are you going to use (E1/T1, PSTN, VoIP and etc)?
4. Are you going to record all conversation?

Thank you guys for the response I'm really glad. I'm a noob so bear with me :D
Anyway, here are the answers:
1. How many seats/agents are you going to run? 40-50 seats
2. Inbound, outbound or blended calls? purely outbound
3. What kind of trunks are you going to use (E1/T1, PSTN, VoIP and etc)? VoIP
4. Are you going to record all conversation? Depending on the campaign but its around 85% of all calls.
And btw, will 2mb up/down fiber connection be okay?
I'm actually anticipating the 3.0 release. cant wait for it.

Any suggestions guys? i was planning to have i7 for the next setup, single server, that would be around 30-50 seater, if time permits, ill try to use the Goautodial 3.0. VoIP, outbound recorded calls, fiber connection of 4mb up/down. how much ram can i punch into that machine?
if its xeon, what codec should i use? how about with i7? Thanks guys.
