Need some pretty basic help

Added by Mark Shelby almost 11 years ago

I've installed the distro into a partition on my hard-drive and I've also installed the partition into a virtual drive. I am using Virtualbox... but in both cases, both installations I get no graphical server started. What am I missing? The only thing I've seen mentioned is the installation instructions which state to use the firefox browser to initialize the dialer because the distro contains no desktop environment... ok, so HOW do I do this? Are there good instructions on how to initialize the distro's own firefox browser (I installed it using yum.)

I'm more used to using Chakra Linux and am unfamiliar with Centos, and even fedora.

Would appreciate it if someone would point me to a good set of instructions. Thanks!

Ok. I found the basic install guide. It helped somewhat.
http://goautodial.org/projects/goautodialce/wiki/Goautodial_Getting_Started_Guidev3

Followed it with no problem until it got about midway through the setup process.
After step 5 (timezone setup) the instructions state: "Open your GoAutodial CE portal via a browser by putting the IP address on the address bar."

But with no graphical environment of it's own.... how do I open a web-browser within the virtual environment I have created. What am I missing?

The GOautodial CE server doesn't have it's own graphical environment. It's a server. You need to access it from another workstation or computer running a standard desktop operating system (Linux, Windows or Mac).

Hmmm.... I am trying to access it from a Virtual Machine. Shouldn't that work? But then, I don't know how to get started. I'll re-read the 'getting started' guide but it really doesn't seem clear to me. I'm sure I am over-thinking it...

Ok. Thank you... I believe I have finally got it going in the right direction. My problem was with my networking settings in Virtualbox.
